Learn more about Richard Uttley

Born in Bradford in 1987, Richard has fast become one of the UK’s finest young performers of classical contemporary piano music. Richard is one of the first participants in the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Philip Langridge Mentoring Scheme, through which he is mentored by Rolf Hind.

Richard graduated from Clare College, Cambridge in 2008 with a Double First in Music. He was awarded a Distinction in his Master’s and Artist Diploma at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, studying with Martin Roscoe, and held a Fellowship there 2010-2012.

He previously studied with Ian Buckle (for ten years), and attended the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music. He has been resident at The Banff Centre, Canada, and attended the chamber music course at the Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele in Germany.

He has played orchestral piano with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and their contemporary music group, Ensemble 10:10. His concerto repertoire includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Gershwin, Grieg, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky.

Richard is a trustee of New Dots, a charity that supports the creation and promotion of new music.
